Date extended to supply Time Capsule contents
Updated: Jul 16
The owners of The Gresham, Aimrok Holdings, are looking to bury a time capsule in the old vault, creating a snapshot of life in 2021, as well as highlighting the history of the building.
We are looking for people from Leicester and Leicestershire to contribute items towards the time capsule which will be sealed away until 2080 – 200 years after the building was built.
The Grade II listed building designed by Isaac Barradale in the 1800s is currently undergoing a £17 million redevelopment to update the building into a new 122 room aparthotel, with office space and commercial units on the lower floors.
The Gresham building is well known in Leicester as Fenwick, a department store, which occupied the space from 1962 until 2017. We want to include this part of the building’s history in the time capsule, so if you have any memorabilia or photos from Fenwick, we want them.
There is also the opportunity to include items that represent modern life, which will certainly be interesting to look back on when it is opened. Have you got selfies with LCFC or Tigers players? Pictures from Royal visits? Or even programmes from shows or theatre productions?
We want as many different items as possible that represent Leicester as it is now. Do you make or manufacture products here in Leicester? Socks? Spaceships? Vehicle parts? We want them all!
Items to be included will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, and need to be relatively small, no longer than 40cm and 9cm wide (unless they can be rolled or folded). The deadline for items to be included is 6th August.
To discuss the items you wish to contribute, please call 0116 464 5995 or email email@example.com
